Fritz Schaer was born on March 13, 1926. He died on September 29, 1997.

The Swiss rider twice stood on the podium of the Tour de France, twice won his home country's one-day classic, and once stood on the podium of the World Championship Road Race.

Schaer was 3rd in the 1954 Tour de France behind Louison Bobet of France and Ferdi Kubler of Switzerland.

Schaer also won the Points Jersey in the 1953 Tour de France.

Schaer won the Championship of Zurich in 1949 and 1950.

Schaer was also 2nd in the 1954 World Championship Road Race behind Louison Bobet of France.
