Joseph Planckaert was born on May 4, 1934. He died on May 22, 2007. The Belgian rider stood on the podium of the Tour de France and won one of the five monuments in cycling. Planckaert was 2nd in the 1962 Tour de France behind Jacques Anquetil of France. Planckaert also won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic in 1962.
