Louis Mottiat was born on July 6, 1889. He died on June 5, 1972.

The French rider was a two-time winner of one of the five monuments in cycling.

He also stood on the podium of the Paris-Roubaix Classic.

Mottiat won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic in 1921 and 1922.

He also was 3rd in the 1914 Paris-Roubaix Classic behind Charles Crupelandt and Louis Luguet of France.
