Dirk De Wolf was born in Aalst, Belgium on January 16, 1961. He is a former professional cyclist and team manager from Belgium. De Wolf began his amateur cycling career in the late 1970s, and 1982 was his most successful year, during which he won numerous events, including the Sealink Race in Britain, and placed eighth at the Amateur Road World Championships.

In 1983, De Wolf turned professional with the Belgian team Boule d’Or-Colnago. Over his career, he also rode for Kwantum Hallen-Yoko, Hitachi, PDM-Concorde, and Tonton Tapis-GB, among others. In the same year he won his first professional victory, he won a stage at Paris-Nice. De Wolf specialized in one-day classics and won a number of notable races, notably the 1992 Liège-Bastogne-Liège, which was his crowning triumph.

In addition to his achievements in one-day races, De Wolf also achieved notable victories in stage races, including winning the 1986 4 Days of Dunkirk. In addition to finishing second at the 1990 UCI Road World Championships in Japan, he won the Dwars door Vlaanderen, Giro dell’Appennino, and a stage of the Asturias Tour.

De Wolf became a sports director for several teams, including Omega Pharma-Lotto, after his retirement from professional cycling. He is also a frequent bicycle racing analyst on Belgian television.
