Denis Verschueren, a Belgian professional cyclist, was born in Berlaar on 11 February 1897 and died in Lier on 18 April 1954. From 1923 through 1939, he was a professional cyclist who achieved considerable success during his career. In 1925 and 1928, he won Paris-Tours, as well as the Tour de Belgique, Tour of Flanders, and Paris-Brussels in 1926. Constant and Pol Verschueren, his brothers, were also elite cyclists.
