Denis Menchov is a retired Russian competitive road cyclist, born on January 25, 1978 in Oryol, Russia. In 2000, he began his professional cycling career and rapidly achieved recognition for his formidable climbing and time trialing talents.

Menchov participated in multiple Grand Tours during his career, including the Tour de France, the Giro d’Italia, and the Vuelta a España. In 2005 and 2007, he won the Vuelta a España, becoming the first Russian to complete the race. Menchov was recognized for his steadiness during a race, as well as his ability to perform well in the high mountains.

In addition to his victories at the Vuelta a España, Menchov won the 2009 Giro d’Italia and the 2006 and 2007 Critérium du Dauphiné.

Menchov was known for his reserved and reticent attitude, but his competitiveness and dedication were visible on the bike. He was also noted for his ability to recover fast after difficult stages or crashes.
