Rudi Altig was born on March 18, 1937. He died on June 11, 2016.

The German rider won the Points Jersey in two of the Grand Tour events.

He was also the first German rider to win the Vuelta a Espana.

In addition, he won the World Championship Road Race and two of the five monumnets in cycling.

Altig won the 1962 Vuelta a Espana in front of Jose Perez Frances of Spain and Seamus Elliott of Ireland.

Altig also won the Points Jersey in the Vuelta a Espana that year.

In addition, Altig won Points Jersey in the 1962 Tour de France.

Altig won the 1966 World Championship Road Race in front of Jacques Anquetil and Raymond Poulidor of France.

Altig was also 2nd in the 1965 World Championship Road Race behind Tom Simpson of Great Britain.

Altig won the Milan-San Remo Classic in 1968.

He also won the Tour of Flanders Classic in 1964.

In addition, he was 3rd in the 1967 Paris-Roubaix Classic behind Jan Janssen of Holland and Rik Van Looy of Belgium.
