André Darrigade was a French professional cyclist who was born in Narrosse, France, on July 28, 1929. In the 1950s, he began his cycling career and was recognized as one of the greatest sprinters of his era. Over his career, Darrigade rode for numerous teams, including Automoto, Mercier, Helyett, Leroux, Saint-Raphal, and Peugeot.

Twenty-two stage victories in the Tour de France were Darrigade’s greatest career accomplishments. In addition, he won three Paris-Tours races in 1956, 1957, and 1958, one Paris-Roubaix race in 1959, and the World Championship in the same year.

Darrigade was renowned for his explosive finishes and remarkable sprinting skills. Also, he was a highly versatile cyclist who could both climb mountains and ride on flat terrain. After retiring from riding, Darrigade was a competent carpenter and operated a furniture-making business in addition to his cycling accomplishments.
