Joaquim Rodriguez, often known as “Purito” due to his little stature, is a retired professional cyclist from Spain who competed in road races. He began his professional career with ONCE-Eroski in 2001 and retired with Katusha-Alpecin in 2016.

Rodriguez was noted throughout his career for his remarkable climbing talents and his ability to finish successfully on difficult uphills. He won stages at the Giro d’Italia, Vuelta a España, and Tour de France.

Rodriguez’s second-place performance in the 2012 Giro d’Italia, in which he won three stages and wore the pink jersey for several days as the overall leader, was one of his greatest accomplishments. In addition, he won two Il Lombardia classics and various one-day races.

Away from the bike, Rodriguez was known for his easygoing and affable demeanor. Also, he advocated for bicycle safety and tried to improve road conditions for cyclists.
