Alexander Vinokourov was born on September 16, 1973.

The Kazakhstani rider won one of the Grand Tour events and stood on the podium of another.

He also twice won one of the five monuments in cycling, won another one-day classic, and stood on the podium of the Olympic Road Race.

Vinokourov won the 2006 Vuelta a Espana in front of Alejandro Valverde of Spain and Andrey Kashechkin of Kazakhstan.

Vinokourov was also 3rd in the 2003 Tour de France behind American Lance Armstrong and Jan Ullrich of Germany.


Vinokourov won the Liege-Bastogne-Liege Classic in 2005 and 2010.

He also won the Amstel Gold Race in 2003.

In addition, he was 2nd in the 2000 Olympic Road Race behind Jan Ullrich of Germany.
