Ottavio Bottecchia was born on August 1, 1894. He died on June 15, 1927.

Bottecchia was the first Italian to win the Tour de France.

He was also the first Italian to win the Tour twice.

In addition, he was the first Italian to gain a podium finish in the race as well.

Ottavio won the 1924 Tour de France in front of Nicolas Frantz of Luxembourg and Lucien Buysse of Belgium.

Bottecchia also won the 1925 Tour de France in front of Lucien Buysse of Belgium and Bartolomeo Aymo of Italy.

In addition, Bottecchia was second in 1923 Tour de France behind Henri Pelissier of France.
